오늘의 날+씨(Today’s weather Warp + Weft)

2022년 겨울, 직조를 사랑하는 섬유 작가 11명이 모여 첫 전시회를 열었습니다.

그룹명 ‘오늘의 날+씨’는 날실과 씨실을 교차시켜 직물을 만들고 작가 개인의 고유한 방식으로 새로운 형상을 창조하는 작가들의 모임입니다.

직조의 행위는 많은 시간과 섬세한 손길이 요구되는 작업입니다. 작업을 위해 날실을 걸고 씨실을 선택하여 아름다운 직물을 구현하는 일련의 과정은 마치 글을 쓰는 작가가 감동적인 문장을 만들기 위해서 하나하나의 단어를 세심하게 선택하여 글을 엮어가는 작업과 비교할 수 있습니다. 작가가 직조를 위해 실을 선택하고 오랜 수공예의 과정을 거쳐 하나의 직물을 구현하는 이 느림의 미학 안에는 모든 것이 빠르게 탈 사물화되는 디지털 시대에 점차 잊혀가는 인간과 사물과의 관계성 회복이라는 의미가 있습니다.

손은 인간이 세상과 소통하는 첫 번째 도구입니다. 갓 태어난 아기는 만짐을 통해 두렵고 낯선 세상과 소통하고 적응합니다. 사물이 아니라 정보가 생활세계를 규정하고 우리의 손은 사물과 교감하기보다 이미지를 선택하고 확대하고 버리는데 사용되는 오늘날 세상에서 직조의 행위는 인간과 사물, 더 넓게는 인간과 자연이 어떻게 관계를 맺어야 하는지를 보여주는 행위이며 지속 가능한 세계를 위한 삶의 방식이기도 합니다. 오늘날 빠르게 변화하는 우리의 삶 속에서 변화하지 말아야 할 것은 무엇이고 지켜야 할 소중한 가치는 무엇인지 고민하는 것은 우리 시대의 미술인이 세상에 던져야 하는 중요한 물음이기도 합니다.

이 모임이 앞으로 더욱더 성장할 수 있도록 많은 격려와 아낌없는 조언을 부탁드립니다.

In the winter of 2022, 11 textile artists who love weaving came together to hold their first exhibition.

The group, named ‘Today's Warp + Weft’, is a gathering of artists who intersect warp and weft yarns to weave fabric and develop new forms of textiles in each artist's unique way.

The act of weaving is a meticulous task that requires a significant amount of time and delicate hand-touch. The process of threading the warp and selecting the weft to create beautiful fabrics is akin to a writer crafting moving sentences by carefully selecting each word and weaving them together. Within the slow aesthetics of choosing yarns for weaving and realizing a piece of fabric through the painstaking process of craftsmanship lies the significance of restoring the relationship between humans and objects, which is gradually fading away in today's rapidly digitizing world.

Our hands are the first tools for communicating with the world. A newborn baby adapts and communicates with the daunting and unfamiliar world through touch. In today's world, where information, not objects, governs our daily lives, our hands are used to select, magnify, and discard images rather than interacting with objects directly. The act of weaving demonstrates how humans should relate to objects and, more broadly, how humans should relate to nature, portraying a way of life for a sustainable world.

In today's rapidly changing world, contemplating what should not change and which precious values should be preserved is a significant question that artists of our time must pose to the world. We kindly ask for your encouragement and generous advice to further improve and expand this group.
