Unforgettable_은 architecture / landscape / nature  이렇게 세 파트의 주제로 구성되어 있고 이번 전시는 그 첫번째인 architecture 주제의 작업을 선보이는 전시이다. Unforgettable의 사전적 의미는 ‘보통 너무 아름답거나 재밌거나 해서 잊지못할/잊을 수 없는’, impossible to forget; very memorable을 뜻한다. 그리고 여기서 영문 뜻의 memorable을 살펴보면, ‘흔치 않아서 특별히 기억에 남거나 기억할 가치가 있는’ 이다.

본 전시는 작가가 샌프란시스코에 머무르는 시간 동안 느꼈던 도시를 담은 작업으로, 단어의 의미 그대로 작가에게는 너무나도 좋았던, 특별한 기억의 장소를 표현한 것이다. 낯선 도시로 시작했지만 시간이 흐르면서 자연스럽게 삶의 일부가 되어버린 곳의 잊을 수 없는 기억과 당시의 시간들을 그대로 가져와서 작업으로 옮기고자 하였다. 작가의 시각적 언어로 당시의 시간과 공간을 박제하는 것이라고 할 수 있는데, 이것은 시공간 이동의 방아쇠 같은 장치로, 작품을 마주하는 순간 그때의 그 장소로 돌아갈 수 있도록 하는 시각적 매개체인 것이다. 본 작업은 실제 건축물에 지극히 개인적인 작가의 기억을 덧 입혀 표현한 방식의 아트웍 작업이다. 텍스타일 디자인은 반복적인 패턴이 주 가 되는 작업인데, 작가는 디자이너로서 작업을 할 때에도 그 소재와 시작은 늘 아트웍 작업을 기반으로 발전시킨다. 때문에 지금의 아트웍 작업은 이후 진행 되는 모든 텍스타일 디자인 작업의 시초가 되는, inspiration이라고 할 수 있다.

작가에게 있어서 건축물이 지닌 가장 큰 힘은 무수히 지나가는 시간이 고스란히 축적된다는 것이다. 나 자신은 그 수 많은 시간 속에 잠깐 머무르다 가는 것 일 뿐 이지만 나의 시간 속에서 이 도시는 영원히 그 때의 모습으로 남아 있는 것이다. 매일 걷던 거리와 그곳에 있는 건물들은 내가 가기 이전부터 존재하던 것들이고, 내가 없는 지금에도 그리고 앞으로도 그곳에 있으면서 내가 있던  시간들을 포함한 모든 시간을 오롯이 지나고 있다. 건축물은 그렇게 시간을 저장함으로써 나의 존재도 함께 저장한다고 볼 수 있고, 그런 의미에서 결국 나는 지금 샌프란시스코의 어느 곳에 함께 존재하는 것이다.

본 작품을 접하는 관람자들이 작가의 눈으로 샌프란시스코를 느끼게 되는, 혹은  자신만의 잊을 수 없는 장소를 떠올리게 되는 경험이 되길 바란다.

‘Unforgettable’ is one of the artwork theme that consists of three parts: architecture / landscape / nature. This exhibition shows a theme of architecture as the first one of them. The meaning of ‘Unforgettable’ in dictionary is impossible to forget; very memorable. And as looking into the definition of memorable, that is worth remembering or easily remembered, especially because of being special or unusual.

All artworks are memories of San Francisco while the artist stayed in the city, which expresses every memorable image from the place. The city started as strange place to the artist, but as time goes by it naturally has become to the part of her life. She tries to bring unforgettable memories of the time and place in the city to her artwork. The artwork is fixing the time and places at the moment, that is a kind of trigger for the artist to return that time whenever facing the art object. The artist uses expression way overlaying shape and colors from her personal memories to the actual architecture images. This is not only existing as an artwork but also leading all following textile design work with this theme in future.

For the artist, the strongest power of the architecture is time accumulation. Although myself just stays in instant during eternal time, the city remains itself forever in the memory of artist. In detail, the architectures had been existed before me, at present without me and in future as well, which means that they pass all time including the moment of my presence. Eventually, the artist is being existed in somewhere of San Francisco because architecture stores time in that way.

The artist looks forward those audiences who face this artworks experience to see and feel San Francisco with artist’s perspective or reminisces with their unforgettable place.
