전시 소개 | Exhibition Overview

류지상 작가의 개인전 《도시의 신기루 – Urban Mirage》는 실재하지만 환영처럼 보이는 도시 건축의 모호한 경계를 탐구하는 전시이다. 도시의 아파트들은 익숙한 구조물이지만, 때로는 하나의 신기루처럼 보이기도 한다. 본 전시는 기하학적으로 재구성된 상상의 건축물을 통해 도시의 시각적 패턴과 정체성을 재해석한다. 작품 속 건축물들은 규칙적인 듯 보이지만, 창과 발코니가 공중에 떠 있는 듯한 구조를 이루며 현실과 환영이 교차하는 풍경을 형성한다. 특정한 순간과 관점에 따라 변화하는 도시의 모습을 시각적으로 구현한 이번 전시는, 도시 풍경이 고정된 실체가 아니라 경험과 기억 속에서 끊임없이 변하는 신기루 같은 존재임을 시사한다.

Ryu Jisang's solo exhibition, 《Urban Mirage – 도시의 신기루》, explores the ambiguous boundary between reality and illusion in urban architecture. Apartment buildings are a familiar sight in modern cities, yet they sometimes appear as fleeting mirages. This exhibition reconstructs imagined architectural structures in a geometric format, offering a fresh perspective on urban visual patterns and identity. While the depicted buildings follow a seemingly regular order, their floating windows and balconies create an optical illusion where reality and mirage coexist. By capturing the constantly shifting urban landscape, the exhibition challenges the notion that cityscapes are fixed and stable, instead suggesting that they exist as fluid, ever-changing mirages shaped by experience and memory.

생성형 AI와 조형 언어의 융합 | Generative AI and the Fusion of Form

본 전시는 생성형 AI(Generative AI) 기술과 텍스타일 디자인 요소, 모션 그래픽을 융합한 실험적 작업으로 구성되었다. 작가는 AI를 단순한 도구가 아닌 창작의 확장된 환경으로 활용하며, 정밀한 프롬프트 설계를 통해 건축적 모티프를 개발하고, 이를 조형적 작품으로 변환하는 과정을 거쳤다. AI가 생성한 건축적 구조물들은 모션 그래픽을 통해 생동감 있게 움직이며, 정적인 도시 풍경이 변화하는 흐름 속에서 신기루처럼 부유하는 형상을 만들어낸다. 멀리서 보면 실제 건물처럼 보이지만, 가까이 다가가면 그것이 상상의 조합임을 깨닫게 되는 순간, 본 전시는 관람객이 도시의 기억과 중첩되며 각자의 신기루를 떠올릴 수 있는 경험을 제안한다.

This exhibition integrates Generative AI technology, textile design elements, and motion graphics to create an experimental body of work. Unlike traditional art-making methods, the artist employs AI not merely as a tool but as an expanded creative environment, using precisely crafted prompts to generate architectural motifs. These motifs are then refined and transformed into sculptural works. The AI-generated architectural structures come to life through motion graphics, creating a dynamic visual rhythm where static urban landscapes evolve and float like mirages. At a distance, the structures appear as tangible buildings, yet upon closer inspection, one realizes they are a fusion of imagined elements. Through this experience, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their own memories of urban landscapes and reconsider the boundaries between reality and illusion.
